Firmware Notice: VIXIA HF10/HF100 Firmware Update Version 1.0.3.0

Canon has released a firmware update for the VIXIA HF10/HF100 Camcorders.

Changes in Firmware Version 1.0.3.0:
These models are now able to record, play back, and copy movies in FXP mode with Class10 SD or SDHC memory cards.

Firmware Version 1.0.3.0 is for camcorders with Firmware Version 1.0.0.0 or 1.0.2.0. If the camcorder's firmware is already Version 1.0.3.0, it is not necessary to update the firmware. Once the camcorder is updated to the latest version, it cannot be restored to a previous version.

Preparations for the Firmware Update:
If you perform the update, the menu settings will be reset. Accordingly please modify the settings to match your preferences after the update.

The downloaded folder contains the firmware (file name: VEE3.FIM / file size: 8.159 MB), and instructions on the firmware update procedures (a PDF file in five languages: Japanese, English, French, Spanish, and Simplified Chinese). Before starting the firmware update operations, please be sure to confirm the contents of the download and carefully read through the firmware update procedures.

The following items are required to perform this firmware update:

1. Camcorder
2. A computer (OS: Windows or Mac OS X) OS: Windows 7 (Service Pack 1) / Windows Vista (Service Pack 2) / Windows XP (Service Pack 3) or Mac OS X (10.5-10.6)
3. A 32 MB or higher-capacity SD Memory Card or an SDHC Memory Card (both commercially available)
4. A memory card reader (commercially available) or an SD card slot on the computer
5. A fully charged battery pack for the camcorder
6. Compact power adapter bundled with the camcorder
7. The firmware (the downloaded file)

Q1: What are some changes of Firmware Version 1.0.3.0?
A1: Fixes have been made so that this model is now able to record, play back, and copy movies in FXP mode with Class10 SD or SDHC memory cards. Due to the camera system, the characters “Class 10” cannot be displayed on the card information screen in playback mode, but they can be displayed in camera mode.

A program was added to work around the phenomenon of some SDHC cards not being recognized due to incompatibility.
We discovered that there were cases in which the communication with the card was not working when the power was ON, resulting in an access error and a "Check the card" message. You can work around this phenomenon by updating the firmware to this version.

Changes in Version 1.0.2.0: (released on August 28, 2008)
Can use Video Flash Light VFL-2 and Video Light VL-5(*).

*This firmware update is required to use the Mini Advanced Accessory Shoe-compatible accessories Video Flash Light VFL-2 or Video Light VL-5 with the HF10/HF100.
