Designed not only as a fully-functioning dedicated grip with vertical shutter release for the EOS 7D, the new WFT-E5A is also an IEEE 802.11 a/b/g compatible wireless communication device offering the latest in wireless photography. It's compatible with Wi-Fi Protected Setups (WPS), Wireless File Transfer and Remote Live View with both wired and wireless media servers. It can serve as a Master or as a Slave unit during camera linking. Built-in USB Host compatibility allows for connection to external hard drives, and select GPS units either by USB cable or optional Bluetooth dongle. All this, plus enhanced camera operability make the WFT-E5A the perfect accessory for the EOS 7D.
Connecting the camera with WFT-E5A attached to a wired or wireless network couldn't be simpler. There are three ways to connect: With a Pushbutton Configuration (PBC Method), Wireless Protected Setup (WPS) PIN Method, or with a connection wizard through EOS Utility on the camera. No matter the situation or the level of security necessary, the WFT-E5A is designed to provide safe, speedy connections.
With the WFT-E5A, and Canon EOS Utility, photographers can pair their camera wirelessly through a browser or dedicated software for complete remote Live View composing, shooting and image transfer. This means easy control of the shoot through a computer, netbook, iPod Touch or iPhone, onsite or off, and is a simple and effective way to confirm and shoot no matter the physical location of the subject and photographer.
GPS devices can be connected to the WFT-E5A to transmit location and EXIF data for each image. With Bluetooth, photographers can fully employ GPS units without the concern of tangled wires and can connect directly to Bluetooth printers. With a USB connection, not only are GPS connections possible, connections to a hard drive for direct recording or backup are possible as well.
The WFT-E5A is compatible with all Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA) compliant devices. With the WFT-E5A, the EOS 7D can create a dedicated DLNA media server, allowing numerous points of access to images, instantaneously and wirelessly. This means that not only can media recorded on the EOS 7D be uploaded wirelessly to a computer, they can also be viewed on DLNA compatible televisions, video players and more.
Camera linking with the WFT-E5A makes it possible for up to 10 cameras to shoot the same subject simultaneously, from different angles. Cameras can be connected without a WAP or network and set to shoot the instant the shutter is released on the Master camera. With an effective distance range up to approximately 330 feet, this linked shooting is invaluable for true multi-angle shooting.
