Energy Conservation

Conserving energy not only helps the environment, it makes sense for your business too. Canon works to reduce the carbon footprint of its products by proactively developing technologies that reduce power consumption.

Reduced Warm-up Times

Energy-efficient technologies such as RAPID Fusing and Induction Heating (IH) can dramatically reduce warm-up times, while reducing power consumption in MFPs and laser printers.

Advanced Color RAPID Fusing

Advanced Color RAPID Fusing uses a ceramic heater to apply heat onto a thin fixing sleeve, allowing for instantaneous heat transfer to the fixing point. This reduces the amount of heat and energy needed to print documents.

Induction Heating Fixing System

The IH (Induction Heating) Fixing System features a fixing roller made from a thin-walled metal pipe with a thin fluororesin mold-release layer coating. This allows high-frequency current to move through the coil into the roller much more efficiently, resulting in lower overall energy use.

Lower Temperature Toner

Both pO (Precise Output) and pQ (Pure Quality) toners have enhanced melting characteristics that enable them to fuse quickly at low heat. A lower temperature means lower energy consumption and reduced cost for similar tasks.

High-Performance Scanning with Less Energy

Thanks to white LED arrays, imageRUNNER ADVANCE devices can reduce scanning energy consumption by up to 75%. These arrays also last longer and operate with less heat. In addition, Color Image Readers use a proprietary image sensor reduces energy consumption by up to 50% compared with previous systems.

1W Sleep Mode

imageRUNNER ADVANCE devices now consume as little as 1W* of electricity in Sleep Mode, while still waking up quickly when needed. For offices where machines often remain idle, this feature can result in substantial savings.

Resource Conservation

Canon works to minimize the environmental impact at every stage in the creation, use, and disposal of a product. We put significant effort into creating products that are smaller, lighter, easier to recycle, and that incorporate high-yield components that maximize their useful lives.

The Canon Life Cycle Assessment System

The Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) product design system assesses the amount of carbon dioxide emitted throughout a product's life. The data from this system helps us continually perfect ways to minimize CO2 production: from raw materials to the production, distribution, use, and disposal or recycling of our products.

  • Produce: Product Development, Procurement of Parts, Production at the Factory, Means of Transport
  • Use: Product Usage
  • Recycle: Product Collection and Recycling

Recycled and Bio-based Plastics

Canon has created plastics composed of 100% recycled material for use in its products, reducing the need for new, petroleum-based materials. imageRUNNER ADVANCE systems also make use of bio-based plastics for certain parts and components.

Smaller, Lighter Devices

Canon strives to create devices that rank among the very smallest and lightest available in their category. These designs help reduce raw materials used, transport costs, and energy consumption.

Durable, Long Lasting Designs

Canon creates long-life parts and high-yielding supplies that help maximize uptime and reduce the amount of materials consumed during the product life cycle.

Business Copier Remanufacturing

Canon has extended the lives of thousands of products with its Factory Certified Series. These remanufactured devices are guaranteed to have the same quality and performance as new products.

Waste Reduction

Canon makes it easy to maintain office productivity, while following environmentally friendly practices. A variety of features enable you to get jobs done fast, while only printing when absolutely necessary. You can also influence and control user behavior to help comply with green initiatives and policies.

Influence User Behavior

Canon imageRUNNER ADVANCE Tracker helps you monitor, influence, and reduce wasteful behavior on imageRUNNER ADVANCE devices. The application displays popup messages on the user interface to remind users of their output totals. It also allows you to monitor individual and group output activity through a web-based application.

  • Keep users aware of ongoing usage levels
  • Add customized reminder messages to pop-up screens
  • Monitor print activity through a web-based tool - and have reports emailed to you

Restricting Access to Wasteful Functionality

You can use the Access Management System (AMS) to grant or deny privileges based on a user’s role. Facilitate compliance with company policies by discouraging access to wasteful print options, and encouraging more efficient ones such as duplex, black-and-white, and x-up printing. Similar, but more comprehensive functionality is also available through uniFLOW.

  • Restricted functionalities are grayed out / unavailable

Ensuring Efficient Printing

With the Driver Configuration tool you can require that everyone prints in a cost effective and environmentally friendly way. Set defaults so that users can only print with options that comply with company green policies, such as duplex or black-and-white.

  • A Universal Driver can be set to manage all network printing

Paperless Faxing

imageRUNNER ADVANCE Essentials Desktop enables users to drag and drop document files to a device icon to send faxes quickly and easily. Incoming faxes can be converted to a digital format and routed to email or on device storage, saving paper and print costs.

Print Previews

With imageRUNNER ADVANCE Essentials Desktop, users can create, edit, and carefully preview a document before printing it. This can eliminate the need to output a job several times to get the right result.

Forms on Demand

Does your office use forms that change frequently? Minimize cost and waste by storing and printing them on demand from the Advanced Box storage space on your device. Because they are stored in their native file format, you can easily update them from any PC whenever changes become necessary.

Reduce Pollution

From procurement to manufacturing, Canon follows internal guidelines that meet and often exceed those set by governmental agencies, helping ensure that your organization can work as efficiently and effectively as possible, with a minimal impact on the environment.

Staying Ahead of Regulations

The European Union's RoHS directive restricts, prohibits, or controls six hazardous chemical substances. Canon exceeds this requirement by eliminating or controlling 33.

Eliminating Hazardous Substances

Canon has built an environmental assurance system for managing chemical substances in its products, including in-house standards that often exceed those set by industry guidelines and governmental regulations.

Cultivating Responsibility with Green Procurement

Green procurement is the practice of purchasing environmentally friendly parts and materials. Canon has instituted a Fundamental Procurement Policy that serves as a guideline for its buyers and suppliers.
